In the beginning modular homes were very basic. There were few
features and it became a show stopper if the customer wanted a different kitchen
layout. Over the years the modular industry became a lot more flexible in both
product offering and feature changes. Today the entire industry has adopted a
custom home business theme. The use of computers made is transition possible.
Every week we design a new home for a client. Prior to computers we could only
do a new design once every month. Changes to that design were especially
troublesome and were discouraged. Today, with the use of CAD systems we can do
more drawings and easily handle changes that we can quickly send to our
customers for review in a PDF format. The level of design work that can be
performed saves time, certainly money and lets our customers see their home in
both 2D and 3D mode before signing on the dotted line. It is always a lot easier
to get the design right before the lumber is nailed together than it is to start
ripping out walls after construction begins.

When working with modular design the size of the home and
style determine how many modules come into play to make your design come to
life. Trussed floor systems and laminated beams make it possible to create some
very impressive spans. Our clients today like open floor plans.

One of our favorite design effort is working with the ADA
requirements and special needs. We offer a no cost design review for Connecticut
builders that are building to ADA standards. To learn
more about the requirements and features you can do more research at the North
Carolina State University Center for Accessible Housing. North Carolina State
has pioneered the Universal Home concept with Ron Mace. Before building any home
you will find their site to be a valuable resource to design and build a home
that will be very desirable and comfortable for many, many years.
